Seven Seconds
Venue: Milsom Place BA1 1DN
27 May to 12 June - open 11am to 6pm daily
(6pm ‘til late on 27th May - 11am to 3pm on 12 June)
Depending on context, seven seconds can seem a long or a short period of time. Time goes slower in a tense situation and can go quicker when you’re enjoying yourself. ‘Time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a banana!’ (Groucho Marx?).
Seven Seconds features works by artists who have explored this duration in different ways: From our diminishing attention spans and hasty judgments of others, to a languid stroke of a brush and the methodical counting of time. Seven Seconds features short films, compositions and montages as well as sculptural works, interactive works, and physical traces of time in painting and drawing. Seven Seconds features 21 artists working locally and globally, individually and collaboratively: Romina Belda, Anna Boland, David Camargo, Fran Chambers, James Choucino, Mark Fearbunce, Ting-Yu Lee, Jiaying Li, Cuiyu Liu, Jingyi Ma, Carrie Mason, Ally McGinn, Henry McPherson, Lucy Roberts, Devanshi Rungta, Aldebaran Solares, Melissa Wraxall, Jiaxin Wu, Jasmine Yeung, Xiaolin Yuan, Siyan Zhang.
Seven Seconds invites the audience to speed up, slow down, consider relative time and its relationship with different contexts.
