MAKE IT A FAIR COP, GLASGOW

ON THE WILD SIDE

Q&A with film-makers John Potter and Phil Shepherd.

MAKE IT A FAIR COP, GLASGOW - 33 min - COP 26 climate conference unmasked

"Two of us used our senior railcards to take the train to Glasgow to find out more about what might be being done to avoid a complete climate and environmental catastrophe. We didn’t have passes or any kind of access to the main conference but already knew that Jeff Bezos had an invitation but not Greta Thunberg. Not a great start.

While the world leaders gathered behind the miles of perimeter fences, we walked the streets looking for other more inclusive conferences. The conferences of the communities and peoples. Going to lots of different events in different venues all over Glasgow we found that lots of the events were organised by younger people, people with real knowledge of the situation, scientists, economists, biologists, all sorts of people with real expertise. It gave us hope that the changes we need are possible.

Unfortunately, it’s going to have to fall on the younger generation to take the lead, they’re the ones who are going to bear the brunt of this, they’re the ones who are left with the mess. No wonder they’re getting angry!”

ON THE WILD SIDE - 8 min - Botanist Dave Green reveals plants we ignore at our peril - Winner of the
Frome Climate Film Festival Award.

“We are very fortunate to live in a very beautiful town that has peregrine falcons occasionally on the top of our church tower, we have swift populations too. But if you spray the kerb edges and verges, for the next few days they look okay, the plants that grow there continue to be visited by bees and insects, but when they shrivel away the bees and insects will die. With no insects there will soon be no swifts either.”
