COASTAL SHIFT is a trio of screendance films by local dance companies, all shot on Somerset beaches and offering different perspectives on our relationship with the coastal environment. Themes of human connection, time, climate and nature surface throughout these three atmospheric films. The works capture performers at all stages of life, spanning ages 0 to over 75.
SANDLINE by AllouAqui Dance Theatre
Sandline is part of a screendance series that plays with the idea of life’s journey as a line. Shot over two days on a beach in Somerset, the film is a collaboration between Chris Lewis-Smith with AllouAqui Dance Theatre and other artists.
KILVE by Emily Brown Dance
Shot on Kilve beach, the film follows five dancers’ exploration of the Jurassic landscape. Directed by Chris Lewis-Smith, Kilve is a reflection of connections we make, those we hold on to and those we let go.
THE WAVES by Yama Dance Company
Inspired by Virginia Woolf's writing, The Waves is a short film shot in Burnham-on-Sea at the end of a Winter lockdown.
Directed by Roseanna Anderson, with music from Robert Bentall, the film is a portrait of expression, landscape, friendship... and of women.
AllouAqui Dance Theatre merges contemporary movement with theatrical elements and creates work that switches between a real and a surreal world. Unleashing their fantasy they reach the edges; the subtle and the extreme, the logical and the instinctual, the normal and the quirky.
