Meet Kerhys, our 'FaB Blogger in Residence'

Introducing Kerhys Reilly, our unofficial 'FaB Blogger in Residence'.

Originally from Devon, Kerhys is studying Media & Journalism at UWE in Bristol, and will be contributing posts to the FaB blog in the lead-up to FaB Festival 2020. We're hoping to support Kerhys in developing her writing, introducing her to this awesome world we call art, and she's helping FaB by providing interesting content to keep you all hooked.

Kerhys joined us for the first meeting with the recently selected Curators for FaB 2020. The FaB committee introduced Fringe Arts Bath as a whole, and explained how the call-out process and festival work, then each Curator introduced their exhibition/event proposal. This was a chance for all involved to find out more, get to know each other a little, and talk through ideas.

Here is her first post:

“The curators meeting for Fringe Arts Bath was a fantastic start to the journey of the festival starting Friday, May 22 2020.

Being new to the FaB group and the art scene I had no idea what I would be walking in to, I have been asked to help write some blogs and articles documenting the journey up to the festival, so I’ll start with my take on the curators meeting. I walked into a room full of interesting individuals full of amazing artistic flair, imagination and ideas.

It was a little daunting at first, but this soon vanished with the space feeling very judge free and welcoming.

It was amazing to have the chance to listen in on some wonderful project ideas that ranged vastly in variety, from the likes of wide spaces that encourage the public to interact with the art and one another, to a more technical side of artificial intelligence.

The imagination in the room was beaming, ideas left right and centre coming from curators that were seasoned and curators that were new to the scene. Everyone in the room had different perspectives but all gave kind opinions and ideas to one another, listened patiently and made efforts to talk to old and new faces.

Meeting the curators and talking to them individually about their projects in depth was captivating. To understand the logic and imagination behind each piece was fascinating, I wouldn’t really class myself as an artist but speaking to these people really sparked some ideas of my own.

In the break I spoke to the FaB committee who volunteer for this non-profit, artist-led organisation. It was refreshing to hear that they had been contributing their time and effort for many years, doing it solely from their passion for the art and the people. Hearing their journey over the years and the passion in their voices, this told me everything I needed to know as to why they kept coming back to FaB.

Ideas seemed firmed towards the end and an excitement filled the air. It was an eye-opening experience to witness the journey that the Fringe Arts Bath Festival Is currently on and I can’t wait to see the curators and artists’ ideas flourish and grow over the next few months.”
