"My internship with this FaBulous festival"

Chloe Hemming, FaB’s 2024 Online Publishing & Marketing Intern has shared a few words about her experience of working with us.

“This spring, I spent a few days each week interning for Fringe Arts Bath (FaB). I’m studying part-time at Bath Spa University, which offers paid placements with local organisations. I learned about FaB during a previous visit to The Studio, Bath Spa Uni’s creative coworking space for local micro-businesses where Scarlett, one of FaB's directors, works.

For those who are not familiar, Fringe Arts Bath is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing accessible opportunities to emerging curators and artists while raising the profile of the contemporary arts scene in Bath. Each year, curators propose exhibition themes to which anyone can submit work. Selected works are displayed in various unconventional venues around the city for two weeks in May and June, alongside an eclectic program of events and workshops. The entire event is organised and run by volunteers and has been operating since 2007.

In the run-up to the festival, my role involved assisting with online marketing and social media—an essential element for promoting the event. Each week, I met with Scarlett at either The Studio, Emerge (another Bath Spa studio space for graduate artists), or at one of the festival venues to discuss and execute various marketing-related tasks. These tasks included writing press releases, contacting local press, scheduling social media posts, updating web pages, and creating newsletters, posters,  maps and more.”

“As FaB festival launched at the end of May, it was exciting to see how the festival came together through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, curators, and artists. I am certain I’ll be back to help out with this FaBulous festival next year.”

We’ve loved having Chloe on board, she took on everything we threw at her! Chloe also brought loads of her own art handling skills & education experience to the mix, and elements from the Arts Management MA she is currently studying.
