Exhibition Opportunity - Bath Open Art Prize - What's that about?

44ad artspace are kindly offering one Artist from the Bath Open Art Prize the opportunity of their own exhibition in their basement gallery. It provides a chance to develop your work, present your very own showcase, and if you're lucky, it might even inspire a spin-off exhibition elsewhere in the gallery...

Gillian McFarland’s intriguing artworks, a series of blackened glass lab flasks, sterile, silent and beautifully slumped, return to 44ad this week as part of Process: Visualising DNA Research.

McFarland’s bottles, which were selected for the Exhibition Opportunity from among the 2017 Bath Open Art Prize exhibition artworks by Katie O’Brien, Project Director of 44ad artspace, gave us a hint of what was to come in this new exhibition.

The show presents McFarland & Ruth Singer’s work created during their 12 month collaborative residency within the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester, and provided a title Genetics v The People for the annual 44AD Associate Artists show running in parallel, on the ground floor.

Andrea V. Wright also returns to Bath next week with the Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition at The Edge. Wright was awarded the 2016 Bath Open Art Prize Exhibition Opportunity by O’Brien, and she created a site-responsive sculptural drawing for her solo show Shadow Play in the basement gallery at 44ad later that same year. Wright returned to FaB in 2017 in Home and the Poetics of Space, and work developed within this line-and-space centered series has been selected from among many for the Jerwood exhibition, now touring the UK.

Process: Visualising DNA Research and Genetics v The People both run 26 Jan to 24 Feb 2018 at 44ad artspace, 4 Abbey Street, Bath BA1 1NN 44ad.net

Jerwood Drawing Prize runs 10 Feb to 31 March 2018 at The Edge, University of Bath BA2 7AY www.edgearts.org
